An Article Tells You How to Choose the Backing of Metal Labels

When creating a custom metal label, our sales staff will ask you which backing to choose. Choosing a suitable backing can not only prolong the service life of the metal labels but also display your name or brand more beautifully. Backing options:

Adhesive backing

One of the fastest and easiest ways to secure a metal label is to use an adhesive backing. You just need to tear off the backing paper, place the metal label on the surface of the object, and then leave it for a few hours. This fixing method eliminates the confusion of other hardware or welding, and also makes it feasible to apply a large number of metal labels in a short time. You don’t have to worry about the problem of poor adhesion at all, just tell us what you are sticking to and choose a different level of strength adhesive according to your needs.

Bar pin backing

Bar pin backing is similar in design to a safety pin and is one of the traditional ways to secure a metal tag in place. The bar pin attached to the metal tag is a little different from the standard safety pin, one side of which is flat, making it easy to glue or weld it to the metal tag.
But this kind of backing has a disadvantage: it is not suitable for small-size metal labels.

Locking pin backing

Compared with the traditional safety buckle, the lock backing is safer. The reason is that the pin post is locked by loading the locking mechanism with an internal spring. It can be easily fastened and unfastened without any tools. The only drawback is that this type of pin is heavier than safety and butterfly clasps, which can add weight to clothing when worn, and is not recommended for lighter media such as silk.

Military clutch pins

When using the military clutch pin, the part of the pin that is attached to the garment is hidden. Wearing a metal name tag is more beautiful. Also known as butterfly clasps, these clasps are lightweight. The military clutches are also easy to attach and remove – squeeze the two wings on the back to secure and release the handle. These metal fasteners are commonly found on a variety of pins, badges, and medals. However, metal butterfly clasps can also leave holes in clothing. And it is less safe when used on thicker media. Even you could accidentally press the prong and release the cloth, causing the pin to fall off.

Magnet backing

While traditional pinbacks can damage clothing, magnetic backs ensure that metal tags, especially name tags, remain firmly attached to clothing without leaving perforation marks on the garment. Magnetic fasteners make it very convenient to wear metal name tags in your office or when visiting clients. The backing has very few limitations and can be used on almost any type of clothing from fast food uniforms, and business suits to silk shirts.

Prong backing

Prong backing is a good option if the metal tag is too large, or if you want to secure it to thicker media such as handbags. Similar to traditional pin backing, small slits need to be cut out for the prong on the item in advance. The prong is then folded with a flat tool. You can choose to fasten the tip directly to the fabric, or to a metal washer for a more secure hold.

Screw-on backing

Screw backing is not usually used for various garments, but is more commonly found on jewelry boxes, gift boxes, cabinets, and so on. Scenarios include home, office, school, store, etc. These backings are made by attaching a metal tag to a specified item with screws. Each metal tag has holes with two screws and two nuts.

Rivet & plate backing

This kind of backing metal label will have metal spike feet on the surface, but not the same as the prong backing – by folding the bendable feet to fix the metal labels, the metal labels with rivets are fixed by smashing the rivets into the metal plate with tools such as hammers. This fixation is also permanent, and once fixed, the metal mark cannot be removed.
